Responsible gambling starts with accepting that losses are possible and that no system makes gambling a dependable income source. Limits should be set before a session, when decisions are less affected by wins, losses, or urgency.

Set money and time boundaries

Use only money not needed for housing, food, bills, debt, savings, or family commitments. Set a total loss limit and a timer. A win is not permission to remove the limits, and a loss is not a reason to increase them.

Notice changes in behaviour

Warning signs include hiding play, borrowing, chasing losses, thinking constantly about gambling, repeated failed attempts to stop, or damage to sleep, work, finances, and relationships. Malaysia’s Ministry of Health clinical guidance recognises gambling disorder as a behavioural addiction.

Use stronger barriers when needed

A short timeout, payment blocks, device blocking tools, and self-exclusion can add friction. If you cannot keep the limits you set, stop gambling and seek qualified health or counselling support rather than trying another strategy.

Quick checklist

  • Set loss and time limits in advance.
  • Never borrow or use essential money.
  • Take warning signs seriously.
  • Use exclusion tools and qualified support when control is slipping.
